The gyrfalcon shown above and in the next two photos appeared near Spearfish, South Dakota, on January 2, 2010.



This is the third winter of seeing a gyrfalcon in about the same place in Butte County. (February 15, 2009)

Second year... (December 2, 2007)

Gyrfalcons are often found in South Dakota in winter, usually near the Missouri
River. This is the first one we've seen in our part of the state. Near Orman
Dam, Butte County.

We found this juvenile a couple of miles west of Hayes, South Dakota.
